Approximately 1 in 5 (21.5%–22%) Australians aged 16–85 experience a mental disorder annually, with anxiety being the most common. Roughly 43% of Australians will experience a mental health disorder in their lifetime.

Females (24.6%) are more likely than males (18.0%) to have a 12-month mental disorder.
Young adults (16–24) show the highest 12-month prevalence at nearly 39%.

Family violence is a significant issue in Australia, with 1 in 6 women and 1 in 18 men experiencing physical or sexual violence by a cohabiting partner since age 15.
Women are nearly three times more likely than men to experience violence.

In Australia, an average of 9 people die by suicide every day, with over 3,300 lives lost annually. It is a leading cause of premature death, disproportionately affecting males, younger demographics, and Indigenous communities.
Adults with childhood trauma have a 50% higher risk of mental health disorders and over 10% are projected to attempt suicide.

Approximately 57% to 75% of Australians experience a potentially traumatic event in their lifetime, with 42% of adults reporting childhood trauma. 84% of young people in Australian headspace centers reported experiencing childhood trauma.
Common childhood traumas include the sudden death of a loved one (27%), witnessing domestic violence (21%), sexual assault (21%).

Approximately 78% of offenders are male. Almost 2 in 5 (39%) recorded homicides and related offences were related to family and domestic violence.
In 2023–24, half (50%) of the hospitalisations that involved treatment for assault were due to Family Violence.
